THE former “Porn Queen of England” is starring in a new reality TV show in which eight feisty women take charge over a group of chauvinistic men. Mum-of-two Lianne Young, 33, who grew up in Keynsham, will be seen by millions of viewers on Channel Four’s When Women Rule the World, which begins tonight.

Filmed over three-and-a-half weeks in the Dominican Republic, the female “rulers” were given the task of bossing 10 alpha- male contestants who had to obey their every word or face being eliminated, with the last surviving man winning the series’s £30,000 prize. Miss Young, a reformed alcoholic now splits her time between London, where she has a home with her 15-year-old son, and Bath, where her 12-year-old daughter lives.

She has a chequered past, having started drinking heavily when she was 12 and entering the sex industry after leaving Keynsham aged 23. In America, she lived a fantasy life for four years, including regular trips to the Playboy mansion. After leaving the sex-film business, at the age of 28, she decided to turn her life around and now holds seminars and is a consultant on sex education.

Miss Young, who went to Broadlands School in Keynsham, was approached by Channel Four to take part in the show which is billed as the “ultimate gender experiment”. She said yesterday: “I had never done a reality TV show before but I am secure in who I am, and that was confirmed during this amazing experience. “They were looking for some very strong-minded women and came across me. I have survived the biggest male-dominated industry in the world, the sex industry, as well as rehab, so I know that no matter what life throws at you, you can come out the other end.”

Miss Young says she had no regrets about taking part in the Channel Four series but revealed that she fell out with most of the other women. “They gave me a hard time because of my past, and they had no respect for the guys, who were actually outstandingly well- mannered,” she said. “I was so disappointed with the women. Women can’t rule the world, and neither can men. We have to do it together.”

AMATEUR sex tapes are credited with stealing customers from pornographers, but the wealth of inadvertently leaked material may be about to run dry. Co-author of Australian study The Porn Report, Dr Kath Albury, said people would become much more wary of what they let out of the bedroom after seeing the possible ramifications. “The technology has probably gotten ahead of us here and the penny hasn’t dropped yet for a lot of people posting this material yet,” Dr Albury said.

“But they will come to realise there is still a lot of stigma attached to it. You and your friends may not have a problem with it but your parents or your employers could and once the image is out there you can’t get it back.” The University of New South Wales academic has been researching online pornography for 10 years and said the sex tape may have helped the careers of Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton but it would likely hamper the careers of others.

However, Dr Albury believes the amateur material will continue to be popular but will be sourced from people who are aware they are going to end up on the internet. “Amateur porn is popular partly because there are people who like being voyeurs and it is more appealing to them if people involved are genuine exhibitionists,” she said.

She said much of the amateur material is produced within communities that feel their fetishes or fantasies are not being met by mainstream porn movies. “Some people do it as a sort of community service and are not really interested in making money off it,” she said. Eros Association chief executive Fiona Patten said the adult entertainment industry was at a crossroads with production companies concerned they were losing money to people “making their own material and giving it away for free”.

But others in the industry like adultshop.com managing director Malcolm Day and porn star Belladonna believe brands will continue to dominate the market. Mr Day said like any other business marketing would play an important role and the established production houses with deep pockets would be able to hold onto their customers. Belladonna, renowned as a queen of hardcore pornography, said her celebrity and loyal fan base would shield her. “I don’t feel threatened. I really don’t try and think about that stuff. I just try to focus on what I’m doing,” she told NEWS.com.au last month.

She has starred in more than 250 films and now also directs and produces content for a production company she runs with her husband. “DVD sales have gone down a little bit but if people are going to like a certain style of sex they are going to follow that person around,” she said.

A visiting American porn star says she’s been left with a sour taste in her mouth after being held by immigration officials over a work permit for the Erotica expo. Californian-born adult movie entertainer Kayden Kross also claims she was assaulted while appearing at Wednesday’s Boobs on Bikes parade. Kross and another porn star, accompanied by their manager, arrived at Auckland Airport on Tuesday.

Kross, 22, said the trio were asked if they had work permits to visit New Zealand and revealed they didn’t, saying they were not required to have them as they weren’t to receive appearance fees from Erotica and Boobs on Bikes organiser Steve Crow. The trip was not paid employment, they said. It was a promotional visit.

Crow did however pay for the stars’ flights from Los Angeles and accommodation at Auckland’s Langham Hotel. But Kross told Sunday News she and her colleagues felt “discriminated” against because of their profession. “One of the (Immigration officers) actually forced my friend to say she was a porn actress,” Kross said. She said the border staff failed to provide any drinking water or food during their four-hour wait.

“There was a vending machine with snacks but we had no New Zealand currency on us. We told the staff that but they ignored us and we had no food,” she said. The trio were eventually issued with six-day work permits. A Labour Department spokesman last night confirmed an investigation was underway into the claims but because the staff member could not be contacted yesterday no further comment could be made.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an alleged assault against Kross at the Boobs on Bikes parade, down Auckland’s Queen Street. Kross laid a complaint at Auckland central police station after a man allegedly approached her during the event asking if he could feel her breasts. “I hit him and said ‘no’ and he hit me back,” she said.

“This is a very serious case of mistaken identity, and one which has devastated Ricki-Lee and Jamie,” Coulter’s manager Lauren Brown said. “They have spoken to Aaron about it and he has apologised profusely for his regrettable actions, but, mostly, they want to make it known that Jamie has never been involved in any type of porn shoot.” The Idol star, who married long-term love Babbington last year, has known the Gold Coast-based Crawford, 21, for “many years”. It is believed he agreed to pose for the website three years ago.

The Strachans paid £1500 for the dream break and were among scores of families at the stunning Egyptian-style four-star Royal Park Hotel in Elenite. But less than 24 hours after arriving, it became clear the hotel was more Fawlty Towers than the Ritz. Bernard, 44, and Margaret, on holiday with daughter Danielle, 14, and her pal Ashley Heggie, 15, sat it out until the last day of their stay - when there was chaos as they waited for a bus to take them from the hotel to Borjas airport.

Margaret said: “This was our first trip abroad and all we wanted was to go home. We had been ill after eating the hotel food and were tired and miserable. We were waiting for a bus when a family were accused of stealing towels. We had seen it happen to a few people. The family emptied their luggage in front of the security men but they insisted they still had to pay for the missing towels. The argument became heated when the family’s bus was about to leave and their teenage daughter tried to push past a security guy.

“He pulled out a stun gun and shot her in the face - then all hell broke loose. Other guests weighed in to try to stop the violence and they ended up fighting. There were six massive security guys and one was punching a boy in the head. The lassie who was shot just kept on screaming. It was horrific, I was terrified.”

The couple grabbed the children and headed for the bar to get away from the violence - and found two blondes and a man making a blue movie. Margaret added: “The police finally arrived but they shook hands with the security guys so I doubt anything came of it.” Last night bosses at First Choice, who provided the package deal, apologised to families caught up in the chaos and offered Margaret £230 as compensation. The manageress of the Royal Park Hotel refused to comment on the allegations.

Google on Tuesday launched its own Internet browser, opening up a new challenge in cyberspace to Microsoft and its dominant Internet Explorer. The California-based Web search leader said the new browser called Google Chrome would “add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web. Google Chrome is a new approach to the browser that’s based on the simplicity and power that users have come to expect from Google products,” the company said in a statement.

“We realized … we needed to completely rethink the browser,” Google’s Sundar Pichai said in a blog post. The test or “beta” version can be downloaded for free in more than 100 countries and its code will be open source so no rights will have to be paid by anyone using or adapting the software. Chrome is Google’s latest weapon in its bid to become the leader in all Internet areas. The last major browser war was won by Microsoft when it won the battle for dominance in the 1990s against Netscape Navigator.

Google scheduled a briefing later Tuesday on the new broswer, which will be available in more than 40 languages. The move comes amid growth in browser market share by Firefox, a project of the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation, which ironically get a large portion of its funding from Google. According to estimates by the research firm Net Applications, Internet Explorer is used by 74 percent of computer users worldwide compared with 18 percent for Firefox.

News of the browser leaked out Monday when Google release a comic book describing the advantages of Chrome. According to the comic book, the new browser will have several advantages including being “multi-threaded” to help avoid freeze-ups. “We hit ’send’ a bit early on a comic book introducing our new open-source browser, Google Chrome. As we believe in access to information for everyone, we’ve now made the comic publicly available,” said Pichai.

The announcement comes as Microsoft released a beta version of IE8, the eighth major version of its Explorer. The new version is touted as faster, with more graphics and allows users to easily get updates from their favorite websites. “This (Chrome) is a straight shot over the bow of Microsoft, which has tightly integrated its Live Search offering into its dominant Internet Explorer browser (and which, surprise, is in turn tightly integrated into Windows),” said Mark Hendrickson in a posting on the technology website TechCrunch.

“It also makes for an awkward relationship with Mozilla, whose Firefox browser Google basically funds.” Henry Blodget of Silicon Valley Insider said: “Microsoft has seen this movie before. This time, it won’t like the ending.” Blodget said Google is attempting to drive more people to Google search and other applications and away from Microsoft.

“If you’re thinking about Chrome as just another Web browser, you’re missing the larger point,” he said. “In a couple of years, you won’t be downloading Google’s ‘browser.’ You’ll be downloading Google’s software — or, rather, you’ll be clicking on a series of Google icons that come pre-installed. Specifically, you’ll be working within a Google software environment that works sort of like Windows.”

Greg Sterling of the website Search Engine Land said: “One way to look at this is as a kind of operating system for the emerging ‘cloud computing’ world,” a reference to the use of the Internet instead of personal computers to store documents and information. “Chrome does have the potential to contribute to a decline in desktop OS- (operating system-) based computing,” he said. “However it’s way premature to call it a Windows Killer in my view.”

Mitchell Baker of the Mozilla Foundation said he remained confident about Firefox. We’ll continue to compete in the browser world, and we’ll continue to do well,” he said. “Competition is seldom comfortable, but it forces us to do our best. Firefox 3 is a terrific product and there’s much more to come.”
